Nurse’s skill enhancement
program (NSEP) conducted it’s very first seminar
The Nurse’s Skill Enhancement Program (NSEP) is a program that aims to enable the practicing nurses of National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute to attain globally competitive standards through improved clinical knowledge, exposure to the latest innovations, development of critical thinking ability, and evidence-based nursing practice. The course is a year-long program. Midway through the course, on June 19th, 2014, the NSEP students of National Heart Foundation Hospital conducted their first ever scientific nursing seminar in the country.  Seven nurses gave power point presentations in English on Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart, Coronary Circulation, Pathophysiology [Clinical Manifestation & Diagnostic Procedure], Surgical Management, Medical Management, Nursing Management, and Health Informatics.
The primary objective of the seminar was to make the nurses get used to participating in scientific seminars and the secondary objective was to convey a message to the hospital administration that by offering continuing education to the nurses, the hospital would have benefited.  In both aspect the seminar was very successful, the doctors, nurses, and the hospital administration were intrigued by the scientific presentation of the nurses and the fact that it was in English.
National Professor and Founder of National Heart Foundation Brig (retd) Abdul. Malik, Vice President Prof Shirajul Islam, Chief Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Farooque Ahmed, Secretary General Prof Abdul Awal Rizvi, Hospital Director Col (retd) Shamsul Alam, Cardiologist Dr Fazila Malik, Additional Nursing Director Ms. Mumtaz Begum among others were present at the seminar.  Prof Abdul Malik who is also the President of the National Heart Foundation, thanked Good HEAL Trust for introducing such an innovative and continuing education program for the nurses in Bangladesh.  He encouraged all the nurses to continue their education to keep up-to-date on the latest innovations in health care. He said there should be more on the job training programs for the nurses for the evidence based on nursing practices.
